Dear All Members,
I am unable to mount an external in my linux os.I tried everithing, but not succeed.
Linux os ver: RHEL 4(nahant update 5)
when I insert an external, autometically the icon will show at 'my computer'.But when I tried to open the device, the message will show that "device is already mounted or busy"
I checked that one entry is autometically done in fstab after inserting the external. But "mount" command does not show it.
I tried every possible command to mannually mount, but no effect. This problem is occure in only one server, but there is no such problem in other servers running same configuration.
the message will show that "device is already mounted or busy"
This message clearly says the device is mounted. Look in the /mnt directory to find the mounted external drive, unless you have a udev rule telling the system to mount the drive somewhere else.
It is possible to have a mounted device which is not listed in /etc/fstab. Fstab shows the devices that are configured to mount on boot. Another file called /etc/mtab shows all mounted devices, whether mounted on boot or at some later time.
Dear All Members,
I am extreamly sorry to say my problem is not solve till now.
There is /media/usbdisk directory is created, but no external drive is shown there.
The entry is autometically done in fstab after inserting the external.
But There is no entry in /etc/mtab.
I have written a entry line forcefully like this:
/dev/sdz1 /media/usbdisk ext3 rw 0 0
But no result!
I think,The device is mounted virtually. We can able to successfully copy the file to /media/usbdisk
mount point. But after removing the disk, the particular file is not in the external device.
Sorry to say I don't know that how to use udev rule.
One more thing,8 GB pendrive or mouse or keyboard is detected on those usb port.
Then how can i say that it may be a h/w issue?
Is it possible that the problem is in linux os?
I do not understand the output of the "ls /dev/disk/*" command. Please forgive me.But I have noticed that
there is two more extra line created after inserting the device. Here it is in details :
