Unable to locate package geary with Linuxmint 16

I am having problems installing Geary on Linuxmint.

[127]r@r ~ $ sudo apt-get install geary
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package geary
[100]r@r ~ $

I thought that I installed LinuxMint 16 Mate 64 bit but that isn't what it says when I do a cat.

r@r ~ $ cat /etc/*release*
DISTRIB_ID=LinuxMint
DISTRIB_RELEASE=1
DISTRIB_CODENAME=debian
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="LMDE MATE Edition"
PRETTY_NAME="Linux Mint LMDE"
NAME="Linux Mint LMDE"
ID=linuxmint
ANSI_COLOR="1;31"r@r ~ $

Am I really running LinuxMint release 1?

It is linux mint but debian edition.
What do you get from
Quote:
uname -a
Also lmde 16 is no longer supported you can possibly update your sources.list & upgrade.

Installing Ubuntu package on Debian system

I think my problem was that I was trying to install an Ubuntu package on a Debian system. I have to wait for a deb file for LMDE.
