Unable to load KDE
 

Hi, I'm trying to get familiar with linux, so I decided to create a virtual PC on my machine using Vmware Workstation.
I picked up the Suse 9.1 and everithing went fine (and they say Linux is hard to install )
Once everything was done I started exploring the KDE interface and tried some web surfing. Colours were really bad, so I checked the graphic settings: the bit depth was set to 16bit, I switched to 24 but it gave me errors, I switched back (all working) and turned off.
Just a couple of minutes ago I turned it on again, but it doesn't load KDE automatically, il gives me the command line with login and password, and I'm not able to get KDE to work, it gives me errors about $DISPLAY...
I tried the YAST command, I'm able to check the resolution and bit depth (24 bit, even if I switched it back to 16 before turning the pc off), but I'm not able to make adjustments...
How can I solve my problem?

Well... I suppose my question is so dumb nobody wants to answer it...
Anyway, I tried to follow the tutorial for Xf86config - command line configuration, I did everithing right (I suppose...), but at the end of the configuration process the sistem told me it was unable to write a new config file...
Is there some command to prompt the sistem to use a lower bit depth from the command line?
Do I have to search for a specific Suse forum?

you could edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file directly or rerun the config program (you must be root to run it and save the file). make sure you have the correct driver for your card.

Well... I wasn't actually able to edit the XF86Config file, so I tried renaming backup copies of it but it didn't work...
Then I ran again the XF86Config program, this time I menaged to change the XF86Config enough to run Sax2... et voilÃ_, I'm actually writing from my linux virtual PC :D
Now I just have to check the bit depth, but I think the 24bit is working...
