unable to install or run live ubuntu CD
newbie. Want to install Ubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06. Trying to install on old machnine (Gateway 2000 G6-300). Error message - "unable to locate RSDP" then it shuts off.
One suggestion from this forum said to turn acpi to off. Unable to find that when I get into the set-up as it boots. Another suggetion is to run scan disk. Did that. Third suggestion to enter "irqpoll" someplace in the code. I don't know where to get to that to type that in. More ideas please. |

Another 2 suggestions for you - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SmartBootManagerHowto
- cant recall ubuntu install routine but other distros give you the opportunity to hit F2 + F3 at the boot prompt to see other options such as "linux noacpi" (without the "") |
Hi
Also try ide=nodma for the boot options. I just turned to Ubuntu as well to start learning Linux. I would suggest that you download the alternate CD for Ubuntu 6.06, rather than desktop. I installed using the former and I had no troubles installing. |
