Unable to install Linux to Lenovo G500 Laptop
 

Hi,

Recently I have bought a Lenovo G500 laptop and it shipped with UEFI instead of BIOS for having compatibility with Windows 8. It the laptop came without OS and I need to install some OS to use it. As I don't like windows that much I have tried to installed Linux in the same. But every attempt went to vain and I am not able to install linux. Oh by the way I have tried openSUSE 13.1, 12.4, Ubuntu, Fedora and also Redhat. But no luck. For all the OS it is booting from CD or USB, but when I am selecting installation, noting is coming to screen, it goes black. I am not able to understand what goes wrong. I have tried to disable the UEFI and select legacy BIOS mode. But for all the case same result. So can any one help me out to solve the issue. Any help will be appreciable.
Thank you in advance. Oh one more thing, in Lenovo's website they are providing driver for SUSE, so that mean linux can be installed in the laptop and it is supported. But don't know how. For the same already contacted the Lenovo support, but they told only for windows they can support not for Linux and it is not supported to install Linux in the laptop.

Try looking for a "legacy BIOS" option in the boot options of the BIOS.

Make a bootable flash drive instead of a DVD I had good results with flash drives. Also make sure you are using the latest version of the distro, The lates Ubuntu should be 14.04 make that in a Flash drive and try to boot your computer from it.

Or try OpenSUSE 13.1 in a Flash drive. Dont just copy the ISO image in a flash drive you will have to use a tool like unetbootin or disk creator.

Already tried to install via the USB stick. But same result like CD/DVD. Also tried opensuse 13.1. No luck. Only trying Ubuntu 14.04 is pending. Once I try, I will inform the result here. Thanks for everyone for the help.

There has been suggestions to disable the fastboot, And also to configure BIOS to allow legacy booting.

Your issue isn't exactly eufi related. The screen's going black because the brightness isn't turned up. Any linux distro will work with it. See here for details: http://geekteci.wordpress.com/2014/0...n-lenovo-g500/

Are the distros you tried 64bit? To boot uefi most distros require using 64bit

Thanks for everyone's support. I will check the solutions once I get back the laptop as I am outside of my house. Once I tested I will post the result here. Sorry for this delay. Once again thanks for all help.

The solution was easy . Just need to increase the brightness manually via the keystrokes. Thanks everyone for providing your valuable suggestions.
