Angry unable to get r8169 to work on opensuse 102.

I have a HP pavillion dv6500CTO and for the life of me I cannot get the eth to work. I tried compiling and installing the driver from the Realtek website (r8169), but it made the problem even worse as the net manager did not even detect the card. I noticed that the module i have in is newer (the number is bigger) than the current one on the website.
Network manager seems to be able to configure the eth but then it does nothing. The router light is blinking on and of, the led from the net port is off.

Things to try, at least to get more info to report here:
1) Yast - Network devices - Network card. Is the card correctly identified? If it's not detected, open the case and make certain it's firmly installed (I had a similar problem recently. Once I reseated the card, things went smoothly).
2) Since you're running Suse, you probably have the hwinfo utility installed (or it's available on installation media). In a console, run '/usr/sbin/hwinfo --netcard'. It should correctly identify the card (assuming the card is properly seated) and the driver (r8169 is already in the kernel, by the way).
3) In a console, run 'modinfo <module name> from step 2. If there are module dependencies (other modules to load first), modinfo should tell you which modules to load.
4) Run lsmod to see if they are indeed loaded.
5) Come back with more info.

back with more info

Thanks for replying Bigrigdriver,
I know the card should work b/c it's a laptop and it works just fine in Winblows Vista. From what i gathered there were no extra modules to load and everything should have been loaded properly. By configuring the card from the yast (which detected it) i get the same result as from doing nothing - it pretends like it sees a network, but in fact it has no connection with the network. LED on router still blinks at a set interval, LEd on the net card still off.

by running the commands you told me i got this:

10.3 resolved the issue.

Well, the issue is resolved in Suse 10.3. It just works. 11.0 had some of the same problems while in RC2 (while trying a net install), but I am unsure how the final will work when it'll be released.
