Unable to find package error on ubuntu server

I installed ubuntu 12.04 on vmplayer on my laptop and I keep getting that error. I can ping google so I know my network is Ok. Also apt-get update works also. The sources list is long I'm not sure if it is pointing to the proper address. I did not edit it so I assume it's Ok. It seems to be the same with any package.
Please reply somebody
Thank You,mosa

Hey,

When do you encounter the error?

Also, it would help if you paste your sources here.

Cheers!

are you installing a specific package?

what command did you enter?

if you're installing a specific package, it could be that the package is not available anymore on that address you're accessing.

or make sure you're typing a correct package name.

please type this on the terminal window and post back the result:

Quote:
ping -c 3 4.2.2.2
if you type this command below will it work:

Quote:
sudo apt-get install webmin

from your logs, it seems that you don't have internet connection, anyway try the ping command and post back the result.

This is the result from trying to install webmin. I'm not sure what is happening. Is there some way the sources list is faulty from a new install?

This looks to be your problem. apt-get seems to be trying to use a proxy that is down. Are you intentionally using a proxy?

Yes this is a company network and we connect through a proxy. I cannot bypass it. I'm not very network savy.

Well, the proxy seems to have a problem. Can you reproduce this proxy problem using something other than apt-get? Eg, try to download so large file with wget or your browser? Do other systems on the network have problems?
