[SOLVED] Unable to download GParted

Now that you have plunged in this thread, can you explain why did wget -c download and save gParted with this name : download?use_mirror=aarnet instead of the usual gparted-live-0.6.4-1.iso ??

Thanks for the delete info. Interestingly enough if you hover your mouse over the "EDIT" button it will show "Edit/Delete"

What can I say - I can't believe that just a few moments ago I sat and watched a disc having gparted burned on to it. A process that began over 6 weeks ago (Sept 3rd) during which you (Anisha) have been amazing. If I could get to you right now I would bring you the biggest bunch of flowers. The thread has gone through a long process of elimination, to find out why I could not download gparted, in the 1st place. Then having resoved that, the file got lost - so there was much time searching during which code flew around like grain in a harvester. Finally thanks to you and unSpawn (who must have spent some time searching the code to find the file that was big enough to likely be the one - Thank you unSpawn). Now it's on a CD that took 65 seconds to burn. Over 107 posts - 1692 views - 6 weeks - must be a record

Does the OP by any chance have a 'grep -v '#' ~/.wgetrc 2>/dev/null|grep -i [a-z0-9] 2>/dev/null;' configuration?

No, I didn't spend much time. In post #75 I noticed some files in your ~/ that I personally never would have saved there, like the linuxmint-9-fluxbox-cd-i386.iso, so from that I deducted that if D/L works you would have saved the ISO there as well. The "download?use_mirror=aarnet" pattern matched your D/L URI so the only thing I needed to do is download the ISO to get the size (it's advertised in the first few lines) and the MD5 hash (just to make certain, it's available on the 'net).

Alisha - Have spent time trying to launch gparted, The only way I could get it to appear under "System/Administration" was to install it from the command line using

I believe that this wil have installed it onto my HD which I really didn't want as it is probably on the partition that I want to change. I have Googled away trying to find out how to launch it from the CD but I'm afraid that I have to bother you again ? Please

Who is Alisha ?? Is it very difficult for you to spell the name properly ?

You have to put that CD in the CD drive and restart your computer and then see what options you get ! [like you do when you load an operating system]

No, it is just a unique name I have never seen before, and a nicer name than Alisha. But if I get to thinking of something else whilst typing your name, then my brain just automatically uses default, and I have known a few Alisha's. I know how annoying it can be. My surname is Dodd, my 1st name is Desmond and I usually get Des for short. People often add an 's' to Dodd giving me 'Dodds' which annoys me immensely, My name is Des Dodd grrrr. Interesting that you should send me that site (dedoimedo) as I was going to tell you about it. I've been reading it all afternoon. He is very easy to follow. But I didn't find the actual launching procedure like you just gave. I found him through Google

I could not get on line in Linux tonight so I tried Windows and that is where I am now. But I will go back to UBUNTU in a few moments. and then, if I get back on line, I shall execute the command as you request and send you the output. I have looked at unShawns post 109 but it goes over my head. I shall try again,

Perhaps unSpawn asked the OP (Original Poster) that is you, to execute that command in response to post number 107, I am not very sure though, lets see if he sheds some light on it.

I hope you were amused with the dead dog occurrence

BTW a cold start with that CD disk in the drive doesn't seem to make any difference. It just goes to the normal default, that is: Ubuntu

Yes of course, Dead dog made me laugh a lot. Have you set the first boot by CD/DVD ?
