Unable to connect to wireless

This question will probably reveal how green I am. Yesterday I installed Linux Ubuntu 6.10 in a Mac ibook G3 that has an Airport card (the original Apple card). I use the Airport Express base station, which works fine with the iMac I am typing this message with (Mac OS X). The laptop won't connect to the base station and I have wasted a lot time trying to do so. Can someone help me to get connected? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Have you tried the search function? We've had a lot of traffic about different wireless adapters, and I'd be surprised if your situation hasn't been covered somewhere. Also, this should really be in the Wireless forum to get better exposure. But don't repost or a moderator will yell at you and me too, and I've caused enough problems lately. :) Maybe one of them will see this and move it.

Clarify your problem - are you having problems getting the card installed, or is it installed and not detecting the network, or getting errors when connecting?

wireless connection

To clarify, as one poster suggested, the wireless card was installed and working using Mac OS X. When I installed Ubuntu I cannot use Firefox, it keeps telling me that it is unable to find the server, regardless of the site I am looking for. I have been unable to figure out if there is a problem with the operating system recognizing the wireless card (an early Apple Airport card), or if the problem is with the Airport card trying to connect to the Airport Express base station. I should mention that the iMac I am using to post this message is working just fine, so I suspect the problem is the former.
As an added bonus I can't seem to figure out how to open the tray for the CD/DVD drive!
