Boot with a live distro and see if a filesystem with that UUID exists. If it does, do you have the kernel module compiled to handle it?
You can use "blkid" or list the symbolic links in /dev/disk/by-uuid from the live distro.

Output of blkid

UUID IS EXIST
output of uuid

Code:
sivakumar@sivakumar-desktop:~$ sudo blkid
[sudo] password for sivakumar:
/dev/sda1: UUID="f0c4d724-063a-4523-b110-e98061169b29" TYPE="swap"
/dev/sda2: UUID="e3f05361-5dee-4793-ba59-900462fbeb30" SEC_TYPE="ext2" TYPE="ext3"
/dev/sda5: UUID="067ccb6b-3a6f-4b57-9a6d-6c78efeca9ab" SEC_TYPE="ext2" TYPE="ext3"

/dev/sda8: UUID="975f57c9-c735-47d0-93bf-0779fce652b7" TYPE="ext4"

output of etc/fstab

Code:
 /etc/fstab: static file system information.

# Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier
# for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name
# devices that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
