There is a text file that gives instructions to the bootloader. Mine is /etc/grub.conf
Go to the terminal and type "whereis grub.conf"
Open that file via "emacs /etc/grub.conf" or "gedit /etc/grub.conf" , depending on your distro. Do so as root by logging in as root or putting "sudo" in front of the above command. Post the contents of that file.
Well the problem is i am unable to login to linux at all. Because the grub loader is corrupted.
I am stuck in a black scren which says GRUB loading stage2 read error and cannot pass this screen.
Since i am in a learning stage if you give me step by step instruction it will be helpful
You should be able to use your Red Hat (or any Linux) installation CD. Boot it, go to a terminal and mount your /boot partition for Red Hat so you can take a look at the grub.conf file for starters. Don't know your experience level, if you don't know how to do this, post back.
i have RHEL CD. After putting it in the hard disk will it detect automatically. and wat should i do after that. I need to know the step by step process to do this. please help me out
The first thing you would need to do is post partition information so we know where your windows partition is. Boot the Red Hat CD and log in to a terminal as root and this command: fdisk -l (lower case Letter L in the command).
