Question Unable to boot Ubuntu on USB from Linpus Linux

Hello,

I have a ACER ASPIRE V5-121 NETBOOK (APU DUAL CORE/ 2GB/ 500GB/ LINUX/ 256MB GRAPH) (NX.M83SI.006).

It comes with pre loaded Linpus linux which doesn't have a GUI.

I tried commands like 'startx' but it doesn't seem to work.

I have a pen drive loaded with Ubuntu OS, which I made as a startup disk using 'Linux live USB Creator' from another system.

Now I want to erase the Linpus Linux and install Ubuntu, and I want to do this from the USB.

So, my question is, how do I make my laptop read from the USB ? Sorry I am a linux noob and want to know how to do it. My Acer netbook has no CD/DVD drive as well.

Welcome to the forums! I think you are making the right decision leaving Linpus behind. Here are easy 1-2-3 instructions (with screenshots) to install Ubuntu on your computer:

I highly recommend that you test-drive Ubuntu in "live" mode (try without installing) before you decide to install it, to confirm that it runs well on your hardware and that you like the interface.

When you switch on your computer, you should see a screen before Linpus loads, put up by the BIOS in the hardware. Press F2 and you can edit the boot option and tell it to try USB before the hard drive. You have to be quick, though, or it starts loading the operating system and you have to press the reset button.
