What does this mean? Do you see a GRUB menu when it boots up?

yes ubuntu is still shown as boot option ...
but after choosing ubuntu its shows grub with minimal bash like support and like this grub>
inside window Xp means that i have installed ubuntu through wubi.exe from live cd.

It appears that wubi has had a lot of issues in the past with breaking grub after kernel updates. I am guessing this has to do with the fact that grub needs to point to a specific kernel, maybe grub is not being updated. From looking at other posts it seems the fastest way would to be to install wubi 10.4 from scratch.

Do you have important documents or anything on ubuntu that you absolutely need?

There should be a way to boot into the system, this is from another thread but should work. Type these at the grub prompt:

linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic root=/dev/sda1 loop=/ubuntu/disks/root.disk ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic
boot

Now you should be booted into Ubuntu; if it doesn't work, change sda1 to sda2 and so on until it works; if you still have an ide drive (the one with the big gray cable) try hda1, hda2, etc. Once you are in, issue the command 'sudo update-grub' and it should fix the problem.

The graphical interface will not start, do you have a command line? If you do have a command line try:

dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
