I seem unable to add attachment or use any of the top two rows to format?
Clicking on any of the icons doesn't do anything ?

What application are you using? Is this for an email application, like Evolution or Thunderbird?

Maybe go to the Help menu and choose "About" if you are unsure what app it is.

notKlaatu: I am using Firefox on Ubuntu 12.04 system.
If I click on any of the icons on the top two rows, nothing happens.
I do have some scripts turned off, I will try to turn on a few more and see what happens.....
OK, nothing happens except perhaps the happy sad face mortcon.

Try closing Firefox, and then launch the Firefox Profile Manager by typing this into a terminal:

Code:
firefox -P
In the Profile Manager window, click `Create Profile`.

Click `Next` and enter a new name for a test profile. You can use any name. Doesn't matter. This is just a test.

Click `Finish` and continue to launch Firefox with that new profile.

See if Firefox works as expected.

If it does:
we know that your problem is in your Firefox settings
If it still does not work:
we can assume something is wrong with Firefox itself
