i had fedora 5,and my system has only two partitions,one for windows and other is fedora 5,now i want to do linux from scratch ,without patitioning in fedora 5,for tht i installed user mode linux,can i do linux from scratch in tht use mode linux is it possible,can any one help me

I don't know if this answers your question, but you do not need a separate partition for LFS. A directory within an existing partition will suffice. I have personally not built LFS, but if the procedure is anything similar to CLFS (which I have built), then you will need about 4GB of free space on the partition. Of course, the final product will take a lot less space than that (probably around 400-600MB).

You will require root-privileges to build LFS.

Btw, what does "tht" mean? Would it kill you to spell out the word(s) instead of pretending like you are text-messaging? Just a mere pet-peeve of mine when I read this forum.

thanks for ur reply,so there is no need of separate partition for LFS,so if i do LFS my fedora wont be affected.but how it works can u tell me in detail. can i work on both.

I cannot say much about LFS, for as I stated earlier, I have not experimented with it. I have however built a CLFS system.

I built a CLFS system because I needed to compile applications/libraries to run on an i586 system. My host system is an i686.
