Ultimate Noob question

ok, really feel stupid for asking this but after installing a program (using apt-get install clamav) how do i launch the program?

just tried to install Clam anti-virus, and everything went smoothly and i can find it with apt list but i cant see it in 'show applications' or the search function

really sorry for having to ask, i just dont want my computer to be unprotected while i learn how to use linux.

install clamtk to use clamav graphically,
or from c-line, you can utilize
Code:
clamav -ir /path/to/scan
"GUI version" in clamtk always shows a red dot.
It is not fatal and can be ignored.

Don't feel stupid for asking a question. We are all beginners at one point.

As far as clamav goes, I don't really know, since I don't use any kind of anti-virus software. What's more is that I have NEVER used one, and have NEVER been infected since I started using GNU/Linux as my sole operating system seven years ago.

What I am trying to say is; don't be afraid of viruses for GNU/Linux, since they are pretty much non-existant.

However, if you want to use clamav, of course you should. Here's a pretty decent instruction (for Debian):
http://www.debianhelp.co.uk/clamav.htm

Best of luck!

The reason for using clam is to vet things you've downloaded that may be transferred to a Windows system, particularly if you double-boot. As the last poster said, you don't need it to protect Linux itself.
