UIDs/ SID's/ GID's... Simple explanation?

I've been trying to read how Samba (member server) and Winbind work together. However i'm blown away by the complexity of the UID/SID/GID mappings and such. Is there a "easy to read" guide on understanding this?

Thanks!

Maybe this document (http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/....html#id431637) is what you are looking for.

Goodluck.
