Ubuntu won't boot
 

I am new to Linux. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 a month ago in WUBI to dual boot with my aging XP os.
I was quite happy except for a couple of things that I set about trying to remedy. One was the screen resolution, which was 1280 1024 (5:4) that I wanted to be 1920 1080 (16 : 9). After searching quite a few websites, I followed some instructions and created a text document 10-monitor.conf with some code in it, which I hoped would rectify the situation, however, when I rebooted, it hangs on the Ubuntu logo screen forever. I've tried all sorts but got nowhere. When I get to the command line prompt in recovery mode and try to remove the file, I just get “no such file or directory”.
Does anyone know what's going on?

Maybe, try to find your file by command: find / name file_name
Then try to delete it and recovery system.

Did you look in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d? This is where x configuration files usually go.

If you want to find this file you need root privileges, command find, described above. Or try to find in recovery mode, you have privileges in this case.

I don't have /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d, only /etc/X11/. I have however finally managed to delete the file and all work OK now. Thanks for the help, I'll be back

Which file did you delete?
Ubuntu doesn't use a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d

nvidia did create a /etc/X11/xorg.conf for me though.

The file was called 10-monitor.conf.
