Ubuntu Wi-fi and Java help help


I have 3 problems i think there going to be simple to solve and, its just me being newish with linux thats the problem

1.Java:When i try to convert the rpm.bin to a .deb using the Alien using the line

dex@dex-laptop:~$ sudo alien -k jre-1_5_0_09-linux-i586-rpm.bin
File "jre-1_5_0_09-linux-i586-rpm.bin" not found.

what am i missing?

2.Wi-fi well i got as far as installing nidiswrappr but when i got in installing the driver i got this

dex@dex-laptop:~$ ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5
Installing bcmwl5
couldn't copy bcmwl5 at /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper line 135.

3. lasty i dont get sound with kaffien when playing video, but i havnt try'd to fix it yet, so ill post again when i get stuck there

For 1: What directory is jre-1_5 in? Is it the same directory your CLI is in? If not you might need to cd into it.

For 2: I don't know.

For 3: Good luck I guess.

1) Try using the full path to the java file, or the relative path. So if you are in the same directory, try it like this:

$ sudo alien -k ./jre-1_5_0_09-linux-i586-rpm.bin
2) It seems perhaps something needs to be copied to a directory that only root has write access to. Perhaps you should use "sudo"?

java install

check here for java bin install on deb.

#

ndiswrapper -i /opt/ndiswrapper/bcmwl5.inf

This will install the 1400 truemobile driver assuming it (and the associated .sys file) are located in the /opt/ndiswrapper directory.
