Ubuntu / vista dualboot

Hello:
I have recently installed ubuntu 8.10 to dual boot with Vista x64. Now I need the space on my harddrive so I unintalled the ubuntu. I still have the bootup screen that wants me to choose between the operating systems. I have tried bootrec.exe /fixmbe and so on, but I still have the choice screen. How do I get rid of the choice screen altogether?

You need to restore Winbloze's bootloader to the MBR. I am not sure what the procedure is with Vista, but I think what you tried to do is generally the right direction.

Did you really type fixmbe or is that a typo? It should be fixmbr.

If you really did issue the correct command, what happened after that? And did you try searching this site for fixmbr? You will probably find the answer in one of those posts.

You could try downloading EasyBCD from neosmart technologies to repair the vista bootloader. The instructions I have found to repair vista bootloader are below:

To FIX VISTA MBR: Boot up from Vista Installation DVD and select Repair Your Computer option (its below Install Icon). Select Windows Vista -- Command Prompt.
Execute this at command prompt:
Code:
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot

I've never used vista so obviously haven't tried this.
