Ubuntu Unity 15.10. Make launchers run with root privileges.

Hi there, first time poster, long time reader. Looking forward to contributing to the LQforums in the future. I've just moved from Windows over to Ubuntu after 6 years in software development and have not used Linux since college.

The specific application which i want to run with root privileges is tor-guard(a VPN client). It does work, however i have to get into a terminal and "sudo torguard" for the application to run, if i close the terminal, torguard also closes. Note: if i don't run torguard with root privileges i get an error.

My Question is how can i make applications in the unity launcher run as root. I've seen many examples such as http://askubuntu.com/questions/11882...unity-launcher , however none of these seem to work for me. I'm starting to think the torguard dev team have introduced a bug in the latest update.

Thanks for any help you might have,
Josh.

Can you not use a wrapper script? e.g.
Code:
#!/bin/bash
gtksu -- torguard
Replace 'gtksu -- ' with whatever you use for getting admin privileges in the gui, then just run the script.

P.S.
