Ubuntu Server Edition

I've just downloaded and installed ubuntu's server edition 6.06 and I'm wondering if it is actually the server edition because it starts up like a regular desktop edition. So is it supposed to have the desktop and what not? Or did I download the wrong version?

Not necessarily, you may well have installed the server edition, but if you told it to install the desktop package or whether it installed the desktop stuff by default, well you'd probably have to read the notes/info at the Ubuntu site to check.

You might also get confirmation by carefully watching the text in the boot up dialogue (Scroll lock button comes in handy here). Some distros only give info on the kernel version being loaded, but some give kernel and distro version/edtition as well.

regards

John

Last week I installed the Ubuntu server 6.06 on a pc. I was never given the option of installing a desktop. It booted to the command line login prompt.
Later on because I am GUI type of guy I installed the Xubuntu desktop.

Ditto that, you can tell the difference because desktop will install from the loaded Live cd, and the kernel that it's booting
