ubuntu server 10.10


Hey i m new to linux and i have installed a ubuntu 10.10 server and i have also installed a desktop environment in it.. But i need a package (.deb)which i cud use to install the desktop environment ... ny luck ??

Why did you install the server distro if you want a desktop one?

@ Soady : i have done a apt-get install ubuntu_desktop.. But i was wondering if i could get a .dep package for the desktop

So you can absolutely go and download the ubuntu desktop. I have provided the link below.

http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/ubuntu-desktop

HOWEVER, if you download it to install offline, you'll need to download all those dependency packages as well. Just FYI.

Why not download the Desktop Distro .iso and burn a Live CD? Install from it rather than fafing about adding Gnome or KDE, etc, to the server install. It may take less time in the long run. Only a thought,
