Unhappy Ubuntu problem


I just burn a cd of ubuntu live 6.10 and booted from it after loading gui it gives this msg

i wanted to install ubuntu on laptop but after getting this msg am confused that should i insatll it or not am newbie so no idea what this msg is ?

I wouldn't worry about that. I doubt you will get that error after you install it.

I booted with Ubuntu Live CD and on desktop i got 2 icons "Examples" & "Install" i clicked on install icon to install it on hdd but cd light blinks for few minutes and then nothing happens & system hangs this making me angry bcoz iam trying from past few days to install linux on my laptop but unfornatly i couldn't.

Linux bros plz tell me what to do now and where am doing wrong ???????? :|

It sounds like you are trying this with an old computer with low ram? A live cd requires a lot of ram to run properly.

You need to download the Alternate install CD at the ubuntu website. If you boot the Alternate install CD it will give you an option to Install in Text Mode. You can install it this way if you have a computer that won't run the live cd.

Here is a good video that shows you how to dual boot ubuntu (text-mode) and windows.

bro i wanted to intall ubuntu on my centrino laptop having 256mb ram i thought it pretty ok,is it ok for ubuntu bro ?
thanks bro ,now going to download alternate cd.

My Pentium 3 can run the Kubuntu live cd just fine with 256 mb of ram

I have 256mb of RAM and run Kubuntu as well. Just to let you know-running a live CD of Kubuntu runs slower than the install, so yes, 256 is enough.

It is nice to here that you guys can run Kubuntu on 256mb of ram but it doesn't seem to be working for Var2.
I wouldn't think Kubuntu requires less than Ubuntu?

Kubuntu requires more due to KDE, what I did was installed Ubuntu then added the Kubuntu desktop.

Can anyone could tell me from where i can get Fedora 6 live cd from which i can install it on hdd too (iam asking about a cd).Link on fedora website dosn't seems to be working :|
