Ubuntu Partitioning

Okay, So i have XP Installed and I have a chunk of free space (35GB) which I want to use for ubuntu..i have set it to manual editing of the partition. I'm not sure which partitions to make for it, to set which to swap area, size, 'format the partition'....and i also dont know which partition to set the 'bootable flags' / filesystem / mountpoint / montoptions/ etc...could someone please give me some good values to use for hte partition..i really dont want to mess it up.. =)

/ min3gig
500Mb for /swap
/home (optional) but recomended (personal storage and settings)

note "bootable flag" in fdisk should be left on first partition (win)
but boot flag " / " means the root directory of instilation

If it's too confusing, try letting it automatically partition.
