Hello!

I have already a ubuntu live-cd running with persistency on a USB stick but I would also want to be able to launch it, loading all the saved preferences in the casper-rw partition, but without any modifications on those settings.

The idea is to have on the start menu 2 options:
1- start ubuntu saving changes (on the persistent partition)
2- start ubuntu not saving changes (not persistent, but loading the previously changed settings)

This way, I could save preferences incrementaly, but only when I opted for the option 1.

Any idea?

Are you looking for someone to pat you on the back and tell you its a good idea? Or are you looking for someone to do the work for you?

I was looking for someone to tell me if it is already possible. But if someone can do this for me, it would be great!

I think you want a boot splash option that defaults to one choice in so many seconds. Look as the live cd already for clues to how to make it work. Press any key at boot for options. They are normally hidden but could be set to show. Look at the (I am doing this from bad memory by the way) folders on the cd. I think it is under (darn I can't remember) but paw through the folders on the cd for menu text files. It would show how to create boot options. You could use a cd-rw if you slimmed down your distro or use a dvd-rw for casper too. I think puppy or dsl did that. maybe vector?
