Ubuntu installed on PS3, but desktop way too small (screenshot attached)

I have searched and searched and found numerous tutorials about resolution, etc. I am not even sure if my issue is resolution based. So let's try this:

1) Can you first tell me what the problem is (resolution, cable connection, size, etc.)

2) Once diagnosed, can we try to figure out how to fix this problem??

Here is what I have:

PS3
Samsung DLP HD 1080 52inch (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HL-T61.../dp/B001A5ID80)
Simple red, white, yellow connection
Ubuntu 9.04

I am 100% new to linux, but I know computers pretty well. I also have a separate PC and a Mac in case I need to do something with one of those to fix this issue. I burned the Ubuntu iso to a CD and did all the necessary steps to get it on my PS3. As you can see in the picture, it appears to be up and running, sans the fact that I can barely see anything.

The screenshot's quite small, but from what I can see (and your post) you've got a normal-sized monitor, but everything is massive so there's very little screen space? Or does the "screen" take up very very little of the monitor?

If the first, I would go for a resolution problem... Second, I'm not quite sure.

It was a problem with the connections to the TV from the PS3. I was using the red, yellow, white RCA cables and I needed an HDMI connection. All looks fine now, but I cannot get the emulator full screen.

NOLAubuntu,

Can you let us know what steps that you followed? I'm running Lucid Lynx, but will soon update.

I've been looking to get myself a PSIII as a Xmas present. LOL!

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Are you using the "OtherOS" option, or some form of flashing the firmware? If you're using the built-in "OtherOS" function don't do any system updates, it'll remove that capability from your PS3.

dudeman41465,

I do not presently have a PSIII. I'm looking for the work around to install Linux Ubuntu on a PSIII when I buy one.

Thanks for your reply.

People are giving away pIII pc's or better. No need to get a ps3 just for that.
