Ubuntu installation freezing

Hello, I've been trying on and off for the past several days to install Ubuntu onto my older computer. However very early in the process I get a hangup after I verify my keyboard layout. When I click the forward button it never goes to the next step. This has happened several times all at the same spot and I have left it for hours so I know its just that my computer isn't too slow. Could this maybe be an issue with the disk? If not is there something else that could be wrong? Thank you in advance!

What are the specs on your computer (especially RAM)? There are many possiblilities. Sometimes certain hardware causes hangups when it gets to that stage of the installer. Also, is it a regular PS2 keyboard or a usb keyboard? What version of Ubuntu?

I'm not positive but I think it has 96mb of RAM in it. It's just a regular ps2 keyboard that came with an HP computer.

96MB ram is too small for a full blown Ubuntu. You might try using Xubuntu instead. I think Ubuntu requires more like 128MB minimum RAM. The problem is that Gnome and KDE are real memory hogs. Xubuntu uses a lightweight desktop called XFCE.

Okay, well I was just trying to experiment with this old computer. I'll try xubuntu to see if I can get that working. Thank you for helping me out!
