Ubuntu Install Problem, Please Help!

Hello everyone!

I have problem installing Ubuntu on Asus P5KR, Core2Duo 6750, two SATA HD, and two SATA DVD's! Actually DVDs are IDE, but I connected them on SATA over IDE-To-SATA adapter because my IDE cable is too short! Anyway, I tried to connect one DVD on IDE and nothing happened, still the same!

I've put the CD and start computer, select Install Ubuntu and after that my floppy started to make sounds, and on the screen says: "can't access tty, job control turned off"!

After that I tried to run Knopix 3.4 and on log screen it says there is no HD's detected!
After that I changed the BIOS option in SATA Configuration-IDE Enchanced to IDE Compatible and then Knopix 3.4 worked fine!
But...

In the Knopix I can see only SATA 1 and SATA 2 (my first HD and DVD), but there is no SATA 3 and SATA 4 (my second HD and DVD)!

I tried everything, and still have the same!
After that I tried to instal Fedora Core 6, and at the beginning install process Fedora can't see SATA 3 and SATA 4, still the same!

Anyone knows what can be the problem here, my MB, maybe some jumper, BIOS settings, or something else! I tried few versions of Ubuntu, 6.06, 6.10, 7.04, 7.10, still the same!
Windows XP SP2 is working fine!

Thank you in advance!

first tip is to turn off SATA controllers you're not using and make sure that the ones you're using are turned off. Also Turn off the floppy controller.

Try to remove one SATA drive and leave the other one in. One of the drives might be defective.

I'm not quit sure why all of this is happening but i'm trying to help eliminating hardware troubles.

I don't understand...

To turn off all controllers?! And how to do that?! Bios?!

with most nowadays computers, motherboards come with 4 SATA ports. you're using 2 of them only. From the BIOS turn the other 2 you're not using off and try the installer again.

I'll try, but I'm using all SATA ports...

OK here you can see how it looks...

I just tried to turn off SATA 3 and 4 controllers, and still nothing!

waelaltaqi 02-11-2008 02:40 PM

Well it's saying "ata port 2 failed" .. .

That means one of the SATA port is failing due to either a defective hard drive, defective port or a defective cable.

try disabling one of the active SATA it might be numbered as SATA 1 in BIOS then try to run the install again.
If you have regular ATA disable it also.

Quadrifoglio 02-11-2008 03:06 PM

Tried that too, and still nothing!

Look again at the second picture, there it starts to read something from a floppy, but drive is empty and then it shows that black screen on the third picture! Do I have to install some SATA drivers during the installation process maybe?!

waelaltaqi 02-11-2008 03:18 PM

you don't need special SATA drivers. Ubuntu or any modern Linux distro will pick it up right away.
Have you tried to take the floppy drive out/disable the floppy port?

Quadrifoglio 02-11-2008 03:30 PM

Yes! And then I can only install 6.06 in Safe Graphic Mode, BUT still there is just SATA 1 and SATA 2, 3 and 4 are missing!

The same thing with Knopix 3.4 and Fedora Core 6! I can install them normaly, but they can see just first two ports!

Oh, this is so stupid! I used Ubuntu like thousand times on my privious computer, AMD Athlon XP64 3200, two SATA HDs, and two PATA DVDs!

My friend have the same MB but two IDE HDs and one SATA DVD, everything is going fine, but this... This is crazy!

waelaltaqi 02-11-2008 03:39 PM

it looks like you have a bad hard drive already... try to switch hard drives . put the one on SATA0 on SATA1 and vise versa ... why are you installing 6.06 instead of downloading 7.10 and installing that?

Quadrifoglio 02-11-2008 03:47 PM

My drives are OK! I tried that too, but still nothing!
Yes I have 7.10, but I can only successfully boot that old 6.06 in Safe Graphic Mode, I don't know why and I don't know how!

waelaltaqi 02-11-2008 03:49 PM

Your problem is a hardware problem obviously specially with trying other disro's.

How about you try a linux Text Based installation disk ... try Ubuntu Alternate install Disk...that might give you some hints on what's going on.

There are bunch of options to look at ... it might be a bad mother board. who knows?

Quadrifoglio 02-11-2008 04:07 PM

But Windows is working fine?!
