Ubuntu install disk not working...
I had Ubuntu 8.10 on my old computer and really liked it. The computer was stolen so I got a new one and wanted to use Ubuntu 8.10 again. I downloaded the 64 bit version and burned the iso to a CD-RW. I used MD5 and it said the file was okay. I'm running Windows Vista, AMD Turion X2 64 bit. It's Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit version.
When I boot up my computer with the disk in, the Ubuntu screen pops up and I can choose English as my language, but when after I pick one of the options (Install, use Ubuntu, etc.), nothing seems to happen and the screen seems to freeze up. The disk drive seems to try to read the disk but then stops. I can choose boot from first disk and it will work. What's the problem?
I also tried changing the boot parameters suggested on some site by changing the "splach--" or whatever to noapic nolapic, acpi=off, irqpoll, and lapic pci=routeirq.
