i think i have got some similar conditions earlier(my bad memory).just try passing "noapm" as kernel parameter without quotes at the boot time(might work just a guess)..

You mean add that to the grub boot string?
e to edit amend the string b to boot |
Tried adding it to the kernel boot string from the grub menu and nothing new happens. Still errors at the same place with the same error message.

So found a solution to the problem. It seems that nvidia drivers arent compatible. Whether its coz of 64bit or what!?!
But here is what I did to get back into gnome and stop it complaining about the power management. Quote:
