Ubuntu grub failure

This question is similar to others I have read like:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-error-869673/

I have read posts to run the boot_info_script and have done so, the results.text are below.

I am running the Ubuntu 9.10 Server edition, it was running for several months and my fear is that I took a spike through the ups or something strange. The machine will boot using the live CD and I ran the update-grub to attempt to fix but I still receive :

GRUB loading.
error: unknown filesystem
grub rescue>

any help is appreciated.

Here is the text from the RESULTS.txt

Based on the above output in your boot_info_script, I would suggest you re-install Grub2 from your Ubuntu Live CD.
Check this link for how:

Are you able to mount /sda5 from the live CD?
Make sure sda5 is not mounted check its file system by running fsck from the live CD.

Thanks for the help, the disk has some bad sectors that are preventing me to access it. I found this post http://www.webupd8.org/2010/02/how-t...n-damaged.html and am currently working through it to create the iso and possibly grab the data.
