huh?

are you in windowz and want to download Ubuntu or are you in ubuntu (firefox) and want to download something from a site?

if the latter then you will have a download location set in firefox...

edit -> preferences -> click on the downloads button.

You can set whre to download and if you want the download manager closed when they are complete.

You should probably download to a subdirectory of your home directory so you will have rights. for example, I donload to /home/kai/downloads.

HTH!

I don't know Ubuntu but it is debian-based. They have a ton of repositories which will allow auto installation of both software and extra window managers like XFCE.

Try APT-GET or YUM or whatever you debian-baseed folks use.

well debian uses apt-get im not really used to that but like what repos should i look for? for auto installer.

Are you trying to download XFCE while using Ubuntu? If so stop wasting your time. XFCE is in Synaptic as is ClamAV (not that you really need an AV). Just open Synaptic and search for xfce.

Or use apt in a terminal. sudo apt-get install xfce4

Call for testers: Xfce 4.2.1.1 in Ubuntu Hoary Universe [from Xfld],
Quote:

installing Xfce is as straightforward as: 1) Enable universe [http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/UniversePackages] 2) sudo apt-get update 3) sudo apt-get install xfce4 Then simply log out and choose Xfce from the GDM Session menu. It's that whizbang-easy!
