Ubuntu Boot Problems
I have installed Ubuntu 9.04- this time without Windows. It worked well for a week. Today started up properly first time. As I was working, system hung. I had to reset the system. From then on, I am getting "GRUB Loading Stage1.5Read Error".
I Googled this error and all results point to upgrading of BIOS. Is Ubuntu (or any Linux distro) so BIOS dependent? I never had such problems in Windows. If it is a BIOS problem, why is the error coming up one week after installing & using Ubuntu? By upgrading my BIOS, can I be sure of not getting this problem ever again? Any other permanent solution? I don't intend using Windows. Ganesh |
I would doubt a BIOS issue.
Boot the Ubuntu liveCD and fsck your filesystem |
How do you fsck your file system

That first link won't be any use in this case.
From the liveCD open a terminal and run "sudo fdisk -l" (no quotes). Then run "sudo fdisk /dev/sda?" for each partition that has an id of "83" (replace the ? with the partition number). |
