Question Ubuntu AMD64 8.10 - Swap Partitioning

I've installed 8GB of ram. How do I install Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 without a swap partition?

If this is impossible or ill-advised, how would I indicate my preference for the use of swap files over a swap partition to linux?

And at what point? (during or after installation)

You can use a swap file instead partition, but the access to there will be slower. Is strongly recommended use a swap partition.

With 8GB of RAM, it's doubtful that you'll ever have a need for swap, so you've got the right idea. I've never installed Ubuntu, but assuming it's similar to Debian, just select manual partitioning in the disk partitioning task, and don't bother to setup a swap partition.
