Question Ubuntu 9.10-Wine-Magicjack close but no cigar

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 with Wine. Yes I am a rookie learning Linux on the run. I received a Magicjack and I am having problems getting it to run. I have also seen quick answers that "Magicjack does not support Linux" but have seen others are running it through Linux. The answers have not been the clearest for rookie users. The Magicjack will show up as a drive when I go to "Places" and the icons are on my Desktop. I run autorun.exe through Wine and it starts the install process but it stops with a warning to plug my Magicjack into an USB port. How do I get the usb port to be recognized? Do I need to add a line in the ini file or in linux or both?????

Hi, srpeters, I am probably more of a rookie than you. So forgive me for asking what may seem to be a stupid question but; what is twinkle?? I am just getting started good with Linux and I dont know Jack. So I am like a baby trying to learn to crawl. I have Magic Jack my self and I am having problems trying to get mine to install as well. I tried different things with no success. The last thing I tried was using wine. I was able to get the install going but during the installation it prompted me to make sure the magic jack was plugged into the usb, of course it was, but anyway!! I am able to get a dialtone but still cant dial out. So if you come up with anything Please let me know and I will do the same for you.

Twinkle is yet another softphone that does not work with magicjack. From what I've read, others had it working for a while, but I guess at some magicjack recent upgrade it seems that no Linux program can work with it any longer. Please join me and keep bugging the live chat on magicjack.com to develop a Linux program.

Twinkle, lets just say I was not pleased with them

Customer support with Twinkle was a real joke. Was rude and could not grasp the questions asked. I strongly do not recommend them. I have started using Skype and have made several phone calls with no problems. Only draw back is they do not have Iowa numbers yet. No real problem, just obtained a local number were family is mainly located. This gives them a local number to call us. Still waiting for Magicjack to follow through with a Linux version but I am not holding my breath.
