Unhappy Ubuntu 9.04 screen resolution ERROR

I started my computer, and booted it with Ubuntu 9.04, but the screen size was only filling 3/4 of my screen. So I tried to change the screen resolution, but the highest screen resolution was 800*600. I chose one lower down the list and applied it, but an error message came up saying it was an invalid screen size which bounced around the screen like a screen saver. I have tried pressing every key on the keyboard with every conceivable combination, but cannot get back to the desktop/settings to change it.

HELP!!!

Since you cannot go to the desktop, can you go to the terminal?

You can, from the login screen, change the session to failsafe gnome and then try to change whatever you want to.

Actually, sorry guys! I found the solution. CTRL, ALT and + or - activated the screen again! Thanks for the help!

If you feel you have resolved the issue then why not mark it as solved so that it may help others with similar problem find solution more easily and quickly.
