Can you start firefox from the terminal with the command sudo firefox? It might be interesting to see whether that makes a difference or not.

YOu may need to install or reinstall libflashsupport.so. This library solves problems with flash sound in linux. I think you can apt-get it from ubuntu.

No, that libflashsupport is gone in 8.10. It should work without, though.

OK, but if you go to a site like , say youtube, can you play video or doesn't that work either?

I'm not sure if this might be the issue, but are you using the 32 bit or 64 bit version?

I've seen posts regarding issues with no sound in flash on when using 64 bit as I've been researching my problem.

Well, that means you have the 32 bit version. In 8.04 some people were running

Code:
sudo apt-get install libflashsupport
but a poster above said that is no longer needed for 8.10? Sorry I can't be of more help, I've been away from Linux for 4 years and am just now getting back in.
