Ubuntu 7.10, how do I get rid of desktop icons?

I have two items on my desktop, both are windows partitions. I still want access to them, so I can't unmount them, I just don't want them sitting on my desktop. I have access to them under "Places" so that's not a big deal.

Hi randyriver10!

Type alt + F2, that will bring the "Run" dialog. In the run dialog, type "gconf-editor". It will bring something similar to the crappy Windows registry :). Navigate through it to: apps \ nautilus \ desktop. You should see a a marked key called "volumes_visible". Just uncheck the checkbox and you are good to go.

Regards!
