Ubuntu 12.04 Installation Problem
 

Ok, long story short, the misses M$ OS Windows 7 crashed. Have been unable to restore Windows. Have decided to put her on Linux as the chances of viruses is much less.

Grabbed ISO Ubuntu 12.04, burned, and began install. Everything installing great. Get to end of install and it errors off while installing certain apps (firefox and a couple others). However it did say installation complete please remove installation CD and restart.

Removed CD, rebooted, then I get this.

PXE-E61: Mediaa test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.

No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key

I went into BIOs to check boot order and I do have it set to HDD as 1. Any ideas? Currently I am removing the install and trying it again to see if that will work, but I'm probably heading in the wrong direction.

Seems like a bad burn or corrupt download. Check the md5sum of the .iso image and only if it matches up, burn the disc again at a slower speed, otherwise you'll need to download, check and burn again, etc.

The PXE boot failure indicates the system is having problems seeing the HD as bootable.

You did have a system crash, do you know if the HD is good or not?

When you ran fdisk, did you set the root partition as bootable?

You're seeing the message because it's skipping past the hard drive and trying to boot from network media. Either your hard drive is not bootable or you forgot to install grub or something.

Thanks so much for the reply. Shockingly, the second install worked and am up and running.

Yes, I believe that was it. I noticed on the second install the grub command. So it did get further than the first time. Thanks for all the info.
