hi

i have installed ubuntu 11.10 on to a toshiba satellite p100 laptop. the drivers for the sound card seem to be installed, in so far as there are no errors showing and speaker/volume control are functioning correctly. neither built-in speakers nor headphones are able to output anything.

in the sound control applet there is no function to configure the sound card hardware/driver.

unable to determine spec of hardware either through applet or toshiba website. previously running winxp media centre edition.

any help out there?

Run alsamixer. Make sure the Master and PCM channel isn't muted. (Not showing MM below it.)

thanks. checked via alsamixer and both PCM and master were not the issue as they were not muted, so still no sound.

any more / other ideas? anyone?

This article might explain it, although it's a little old, it seems it's a BIOS ACPI fault that you need to patch manually.
