Ubuntu 11.10 halts at "checking battery" during startup

Had problems installing Ubuntu on an advent laptop due to only 256Mb ram.
This time installed within windows for dual booting on tower which is quite a high spec dual processor and 2Mb RAM and the system halts with flashing cursor after "checking Battery".
I think I'll stick to Windows.

Yeah. My 12MB P66 no name netbook boat anchor runs Windows 95 OK.
And I thought my boat anchor was low spec.

This seems to be an error in the Ubuntu install script. Try a better distribution. I like Debian.
