ubuntu 11.10 cdrom/dvd unable to mount

Hello All

I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 which I installed on a Flash drive. Ubuntu was installaed using virtual box on a notebook which as you know does not have a cdrom/dvd. I was able to install ubuntu just fine and it runs awesome booting from the usb.
The only problem I have is that when I use ubuntu on a computer that has a cdrom/dvd it won' t mount. I'm assuming this is happening because when I installed ubuntu using notebook the installation didn't bother configure it to mount a cdrom/dvd since I did not have one.

I did some research and in order for my cdrom/dvd to work I need to add something like this
/dev/sdc0 /media/cdrom0 iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0
on /etc/fstab file. However I dont see any sdc0 file under the /dev folder.

Can someone guide me on how to fix this issue?

Thanks a lot

Hello,

If you do a 'ls' on /dev do you see a symlink named cdrom, cdrom1, dvd, or similar? Is so what is it pointing to?

Kind regards,

Eric

On my debian system, its sr0, I would imagine Ubuntu is likely to be the same.

Hi,

Can you post output of this also:
Code:
ls -l /dev
to see what IS in there?

Kind regards,

Eric

Looks to me like no CD drivers are installed.
Code:
lsmod | grep cdrom
If nothing shows up, id would google your cd drive, for the required module, and install it. There is probably info in the Ubuntu documentation

At the start of your pasted terminal output, put [code], and at the end of it, put [/code] at the end of it.

Also, i seem to recall reading somewhere that sg0 will be used for CD drives. Which was shown in your "ls /dev" output. This is possibly the device node.

Kind regards,

Eric
