Ubuntu 11.04 Installation
Hey guys. I have just finished getting Ubuntu 11.04 onto my CD and have successfully "tried" it out. Now I just started to install it but came upon a screen titled Allocate Drive Space. On this screen it says Quit Back and Install Now. I clicked Install Now and it says "No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu."
I have no idea what this means so any help os very much appreciated. P.S. I want to install it so that I can use Windows 7 and Ubuntu both, so at boot time I can choose which OS to use. I already have Windows 7 on this machine. |
Did you get the server or desktop version?
Also did you resize windows7 using it's disk utilities to provide free space? |
I downloaded the desktop version. I havent't resized anything and really am not sure how to go about doing that. If this is any helpful- At the top of the allocate drive space window it shows a long orange bar and a small blue bar attached to it. The blue bar is 14.6GB and is labeled sda3(ntfs).

right-click "My Computer" select "Manage" select "Manage Disks" select the wins partition resize.
Wins7 will only resize by 50%, make sure you defrag first. |
O.k. and will defrag be one of the options in that path?
|
Defrag is in System Tools menu.
|
I clicked on manage >> disk management but cant see anything related to partition resizing. I am defragging right now though.
I feel nervous because I don't want any programs on Windows to get destroyed like my Visual Studio :0 Edit: If I right click the C: drive it says shrink volume if thats what you mean? |
