Unhappy Ubuntu 10.04 Samsung Kies

I've just bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 because someone told me I can use it with Linux. I just tried to download the software for Kies on my PC and it's only possible for Windows and Mac!! I take it that there is a way round it. Can anyone tell me how?

You don't really need Kies, but if you want it, you need another OS. It might run under wine, but I've never tried it. Kies doesn't really do much, other than easily download and install new firmware for the phone. If you just want to transfer files, you can do that with the Android SDK. You don't actually need the entire SDK, just the adb binary.

Thanks for the tip. Only question is now, how do I install the Android SDK adb binary? ;-)

Sorry to get back so late, work intervened. Just copy adb to any directory. If you want to make it easy, copy it to a directory in your path, /usr/local/bin being a good choice, IMO. There is no installation other than having the binary available. You can run it from your home directory, but it's a little more cumbersome, requiring using the path to it instead of just adb.
