Ubuntu 10.04 hangs up when creating LVM snapshot of /root

Recently, I've tried to create a snapshot of my /root folder in 10.04 (I remember to have done so a couple of times without trouble).

I used the command
HTML Code:

lvcreate -L10G -s -n rootsnapshot /dev/server/root
Without a hint of HDD activity, Gnome (?) hangs up - I can move the mouse, and the clock is moving on, but I can't click on anything. No HDD activity, and this goes on forever (after a while, the whole system locks up). This happens each time when I try to create a snapshot.

What could be the problem?

Do you have permission to modify /root? You probably ALWAYS would have to use sudo to create a snapshot of that directory.

Yes, I used sudo, I don't know how I could get more permission than that...

I don't have an answer for you but there is a very easy way to do just what you are trying to do. luckybackup is a graphical backup that is super simple and fast. It is in the repository!
