Ubuntu 10.04 Beta & Crossover & Guild wars Problem

Here are my Computers spec's:
Compaq CQ61Z
AMD dual core processor (2Ghz)
ATI Radeon HD 4200 916MB VRAM / 500MHZ
2GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate
Ubuntu 10.04 (beta)

I am trying to play guild wars on my ubuntu computer ontop of crossover games, but it just wont work right. here is a picture of what i see:

I forgot to tell you i use a 64-bit version of the OS (if that helps at all)
Anyways, i just click on the link on my desktop that it created

Run it in a terminal, lets see what it spits out. Also, how did you install it?

Since im using the desktop icon, i went into its properties and copied its command. I pasted it into the terminal. when i do, the window wont even open. There is no output/backtrace. here was the CMD: /home/lambda/.cxgames/win2000/desktopdata/cxmenu/StartMenu.C^5E3A^5Fwindows^5Fprofiles^5FAll^2BUsers^5FStart^2BMenu/Programs/Guild+Wars/Guild+Wars

I decided to reinstall evrything. This is the new error output:

Soo, have you installed DirectX 8 and are you using the current driver for your card?

But doesent crossover games have it by default, or should i download it onto wine?

I've never used Crossover (so I don't know about the DirectX part), but I'm pretty sure you will need the current (proprietary) drivers installed for 3D to work.

I just searched Crossover's site for 'GuildWars' and got 0 matches. Did the same for wine with the following response:http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...rsion&iId=9194
Based on this, I would use wine. It was described as running 'flawless' on Ubuntu 9.10.

The Ubuntu 10.04 alphas are using the open source radeon driver by default. They do provide 3D acceleration but it may not work properly with various games under wine. The proprietary drivers will probably work better, *however* I do not believe AMD has released drivers that work with X server 1.7.*. I know that Ubuntu has access to beta drivers with this support for the purposes of beta testing before the official 10.04 release, so it is quite likely that the proprietary drivers will work properly at that point.

So i should just go ahead and install ubuntu 9.10, and wait another month for ubunu 10.04's release?

Or continue to use the open source drivers.
