Hibernate and Suspend options in Ubuntu is not working :( ooooohhhhhhh
 

Hibernate and Suspend in ubuntu 10.04 lts is not working.when i click Suspend the screen goes black and the cpu takes 100% load continue-sly... Same for hibernate too.
what should i do?

you should provide more information about your hardware. Which processor? how much RAM? Mainboard? did it work before? does it work with Windows?

after i installed new kernel regarding 2.6.37,i am facing unable to hibernate or suspend :-w

Ubuntu 10.04 & Ubuntu 10.10 wont allow other kernels to hirbernate or suspend.why?

The pre-compiled kernels which comes with Ubuntu 10.04(2.6.32) & Ubuntu 10.10(2.6.35) allows to hibernate or suspend successfully on my HP Probook 4510.

The Custom kernels(2.6.37 and 3.0.0) which i compiled myself and installed on Ubuntu 10.04 & Ubuntu 10.10 are not allowing me to hibernate or suspend.why?

Because you didn't compile the right options in them, to allow them to, most probably.

can u explain it more? please? its my humble request.

i have too that problem. mine is hp probook 4510.but the problem only comes if i install a new kernel from source codes.the graphics is actually based on intel graphics

Can you spell out your words? We've requested it before, too.....

And not sure what else I can elaborate on...kernels have many, MANY options, and if you didn't compile them in and/or built the kernel modules to be loaded, then you'll be missing those pieces. Things like ACPI, laptop mode things, etc., are all dependent on how you built the kernel. Alot also depends on your hardware, which you say nothing about.

Since the 'stock' kernel works, boot into it, and look at what options/pieces are enabled/disabled/etc. Build your new one accordingly.

No, the laptop the OP has is either ATI or nVidia. YOUR laptop may have Intel graphics, but it's different than the OP's, and telling them they have Intel is only going to confuse things.

Then you should open your own thread. You're using a different Linux distro, on different hardware. What works for the OP may not work for you, and will only confuse those who try to read the thread.

Wow, really?? You booted another kernel, went through the ENTIRE configuration and made notes, then recompiled a new one, in only six minutes?? Impressive.

In this one, you say it's not letting you suspend...in another, it works, but gives a blank screen on resume. Again, since the stock kernel works, you've not installed a new kernel correctly. Either you will have to keep working through the problems or you can go back to the stock kernel. Seems like you're in over your head.

the whole compilation process takes about more than 1 hour in my laptop.
