Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit boots to a black screen
Hi every body
I'm using VMWare Work Station 8.1 with Windows 7 (64 bit). I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit and 32 bit both) & it works fine. But when I try to install Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit), I get a black screen requesting me to log-in. Below is what it requests for; Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS Ubuntu tty1 login: When I use startx command , I get below error: Fatal server error: no screens found Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log giving up. xinit: No such file or directory (error 2): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (error 3): Server error Can someone advise me as to why the error appears and what should I do further? |
Try
Code:
sudo xinit gdm |
I do and I got exectly the same error
I find a useful link : [http://www.x.org/wiki/FAQErrorMessages/#index8h2] It says : The cause of this error is that my xorg.conf file doesn't contain the correct driver(s) for the chipset(s) in my system . according to this site my active video device is a vmware svga ii adapter video chip . noe ,I have no idea how to solve this problem |
