typing ' & "

When I use quotes, double or single, I must press the space bar in order to actually print that character. Any ideas on how to undo that?

You need to identify your keyboards language as well as the default language of your install, make sure they match

I'm not sure about this. Usually I install on openSUSE the english version and select german keyboard. This works fine even for the german umlaut. But checking the keyboard language is a good place to look for.

Make sure that you use the nodeadkeys variant of the german keyboard, this will stop this behavior.
